MARIE WATT + PGF

METAL CLOUD SCULPTURES

PGF collaborated with artist Marie Watt on another monumental sculpture, Vivid Dream (Awakening,) this time featuring thousands of hand sewn metal jingles. Native American artist, Marie Watt, chose these historical jingles, created from the rolled tops of tobacco cans and other tin lids, for their reverberation qualities. “They are grounded in Indigenous Histories of making and storytelling, adornment and ritual. Here they hover between the sky and the earth. Simultaneously heavy and weightless, the jingles nudge and tap each other, creating murmurs of sound when animated by a breeze. They amplify each other’s stories, reverberating with each passing movement.” -Marie Watt

Each metal jingle was hand sewn by the PGF team in our fabrication studio. The technical design and suspension of the cloud formation is where PGF's development team showcased their structural engineering genius. Marie Watt's sculpture, Vivid Dream (Awakening,) provided a welcome challenge and opportunity for us to use unconventional materials and showcase new techniques.

We had the honor of inviting world renowned jingle dancer, Acosia Red Elk, to our factory to dance with the nine newly finished jingle cloud sculptures before they were sent to Chicago for their official debut. Visit our instagram page to watch parts of the performance.
