POP UP EXHIBITION WITH MEGHAN BOGDEN SHIMEK!

Nationale and Portland Garment Factory (PGF) are excited to announce a one night pop-up exhibition with Bay Area fiber artist, Meghan Bogden Shimek on August 13 (5–8pm) at PGF. Working primarily with thick wool roving, and using traditional tapestry and Navajo techniques, Shimek’s abstract wall weavings explore shape, texture, and color. With a focus on process, the downy and luscious work is also an expression of the artist’s physical and organic interactions with raw materials. For one evening only, come meet the artist and experience her alluring, tactile weavings.

This pop-up exhibition directly follows Shimek’s Off Loom Roving Weaving Workshop (1–4pm) also at PGF. Space is limited, so please sign up in advance to secure your spot.

Meghan Bogden Shimek is a weaver, fiber artist, and tarot reader living and working in Oakland, California. She is inspired by loss, movement, healing and the acknowledgment of uncomfortable feelings. Meghan integrates the natural beauty of her surroundings, the memory of quiet snowy nights, and the sound of the stream running under her home into every weaving. Meghan has studied several weaving techniques, including tapestry weaving with Tricia Goldberg, Navajo weaving, rigid heddle, and floor loom weaving. She has been teaching weaving workshops for over two years across the United States.
